I suppose I might call this a 'lest we forget' comment, i.e., one re a writer not now often mentioned. My next port of call after reading this was to Chocolate Cobwebs site, and among her current display of crime fiction covers is a novel by Joan Fleming, whom I at once remembered reading with pleasure long ago. There is Wikipedia site on her, out of Norway, and there it mentions that two of her novels are set in Istanbul and feature philosopher/detective Nuria Bey Izkurlak -- the first Turkish detective in crime fiction? One of them, When I Grow Rich (1962), earned her one of her two Golden Dagger awards, the other being for Young Man I Think You're Dying, which was also chosen by H R.F. Keating as one of his 100 Best. The other Nuria Bey is Nothing Is the Number When You Die (1965). I shall have a wee hunt for these.
